Bought for my husband for Christmas, he has never painted but loves Bob Ross. He loves to. You need other materials. canvas, palette, easel. and cleaner. This set will help you get started with basic paints, brushes and a knife. The video is basically a DVD from one of his shows. I read exactly what was in the kit before I bought it so I knew what else I needed so don't think it's an "all inclusive" package.

Update: Replaced with the same three non-US made items. They are lower quality than I would like, but the large brushes and color make it worth buying. The core set contains 3 fakes. Fan blender, text insert and knife are all cheaply made. They are serious about dollar store quality items, not "Made in USA". Found it odd that they didn't fit in the box but then noticed the difference in quality compared to the beautifully made landscape and background brushes. Will come back for a replacement…

I really liked this color set. Bob Ross is a great teacher, but it's important to take your time and pay attention to what he's saying. I spent 3 hours on his 1 hour instructional video but I am very happy with the result. I think the point of this painting set is to get started. After painting for a while, you'll quickly find that you need a lot more liquid white, titanium white, a second set of each brush, and lots of paint thinner. Excellent set. This made it very easy to turn on and follow Bob. Others commented that the set did not include all the necessary paints to complete the painting on the included DVD - while technically correct (Bob is referring to other paints), they are by no means needed and you can customize them using the included ones Mix colors. I recently got interested in watching old episodes of Bob Ross on PBS and he made it so easy. . I've tried acrylic paints from Walmart and various craft stores but didn't get the same effect as Bob. I ordered this set and started painting. First, these paints are incredibly dry, which is very important with the wet-on-wet technique.
