Review on ASUS VE228H 1920X1080 Back Lit Monitor 21.5", 60Hz, Wide Screen, by Gary Jensen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great monitor for the price but only buy if you use it for a computer or console!

Dude, where do I start? Let me start with the good first as there is very little that is bad. I wanted a monitor mainly because it was cheaper than a TV and could do the same thing as a TV. I mainly use this to play Xbox next to my bed and watch Netflix and it's been a great experience so far! Before I get into the pros and cons, let me tell you a few things about it. means a high-end Sony 4k display for $600 but priced at around $150 or less? This thing is perfect. Whether you're building a PC and need a single (or dual) display for work or gaming, or like me you need a monitor for playing console games, this works great. However, I would NOT use it as a "living room" TV, even if you could connect a cable box to your Xbox to do so. The monitor just isn't big enough to serve as a TV. Best on a table or next to a bed. The furthest I could see it from was about 10 feet and it was hard to read anything on the screen at all with my glasses. So the viewing angles aren't convincing. This display is a monitor through and through, despite having an LED display. It also has built-in speakers, but they're nothing special. If you want to listen to music on your computer, buy speakers. The built-in stereo speakers are "tinny" and sound like they come from a metal can. Anyway, let's get to the pros and cons. Pros: Small, portable, good looking and wide when you're around. (Double Bladed Sword) - Easy to install with a stand that requires no tools to install. - Yes, it can be installed! It has a VESA mount, 100 x 100 - Nice colors and good customization - All buttons except the power button have a satisfying "click". not visible from a distance, can really only serve as a "monitor" and not a "TV" - viewing angles are awkward - ports are awkwardly placed, particularly the headphone jack - speakers are frankly awful, close some (long) Headphones on - Piano Black Trim will suck your fingerprints a mile away. A mail order discount is essentially a free meal at McDonalds that's not really worth it. All in all this is a great monitor, if you are on a budget give this one a serious look.
