I've never tried to make a room smell nice using heating oils. I love walking into a room and sniffing something nice. I'm a fan of canned and particulate air fresheners, I love candles and probably have a thousand incense sticks, and whenever I see a funky new way to make my house smell nice, I usually give it a try. The other day, while running errands with a friend, I found a small collection of "warming oils" in one of the aisles of the store and decided to buy a few since they were only $2 each. The heating pads they sold with these oils were large, expensive, and electric, and I figured I could find a heating pad on Amazon for a lot less. Then I found this little thing. Certainly not the most attractive item I own (although the color choice was good) and I wasn't expecting much from it (felt the oil reservoir was too far from the flame to be heated effectively), but after I did tried it, i will do it and want to tell the whole world about it! I filled a small white portion with a thin layer of gardenia oil (enough to cover the bottom) stating not to dilute the formula. I plugged in a tea light that was somewhere nearby, lit it and waited. After a minute or two I could smell the gardenia floating around me on my table and as I looked at it I could see faint wisps of steam/smoke indicating the oil was heating up. After all the gardenia oil was used up, I moved the heating pad to another room, cleaned the cooled white part of the remaining oil and filled it with new fragrance. The second time it worked great! Well the only downside is that there are no tea lights and tea lights (which are true to size; I wouldn't put larger candles underneath as the white oil holder can very easily get very hot when the flame is so small). burn out very quickly. A candle can give 1-3 sessions of oil if you only apply it to the floor in a thin layer. But luckily, you can pick up a whole large bag of tea lights at just about any store for just a few dollars. Since I've only been using it for a short time, I can't comment on durability. It doesn't look like the most studied object in the world, but if you just mount it somewhere and don't go crazy filling everything with oil, it seems like it should last a while and work just fine. It's only $5 and I think for the money this is definitely a great oil heater. If you dislike open flames this heater may not be for you as it requires a lit candle to operate. I think just to be safe it should not be left alone. But if you can handle a small candle flame or know that a plug-in electric model doesn't suit you and your needs, then I think at $5 this is an absolutely great buy that works great. Will definitely be going back to the candle and oil shop soon! I think this method is even more effective than candles, plus I can try blending scents for custom combinations, which is a benefit you can't easily achieve with candles, incense sticks, or air fresheners.
