Leaves a lot to be desired

Don't get me wrong, this tank is good for what it is, but it's not much, especially at almost $100. First, you really need a heater to store everything else. than a goldfish living in this aquarium. We bought it for Bettu so we added a heater. And more effort. Second, it is far from self-cleaning. Keep it out of sunlight and the plants won't grow to do their job. Give it enough sunlight for plants and algae to grow. Enter the algae eater and you now have more poo than the plants can clear. Yes, I can go longer between cleanings in this tank than in our large tank with a traditional filter, but this tank is also 10 times easier to clean because I don't have to disassemble the top of the 8000 elements (maybe I'm overdoing that) . ) and clear every damn rock for another aquarium. Third, that's really not enough. The amount of rocks they drop doesn't even cover the bottom of the tank. There are no plants, decorations or other hiding places for the bettas. For a $100 kit it really should have everything you need. This is a good science lesson for kids though, so I've been playing along so far. BUT. here we are, 9 months old and the filter is dying. What my daughter really wanted was one of those $9 vases and lily systems where she could watch her rooster fish and have a beautiful flower. What I got was a huge headache and more expense now that I'm buying a new filter.
