This is a cheap solid pocket watch but looks like it came from antiquity. It is beautifully made and keeps time well. I was interested in pocket watches because of their dated look and also because I was looking for a hand-wound pocket watch. This suits both needs. I will not be wearing this watch every day so the battery would not be needed. This one will always work when I wear it; You just need to set the time first and start. I agree with the former reviewer; The hands are very delicate and tiny enough to actually look at the face to read the time. This problem is compounded by the transparent dial. The hands blend seamlessly into the work of the watch. However, I think the transparent dial is part of the charm of this pocket watch. Perhaps larger hands on later models (if any) help make them more visible. Since I won't be wearing this watch every day, that didn't stop me from buying it. My mobile phone can show me the correct time in low light when needed. Maybe one day I'll take the parts out of the case, remove the hands and paint the hour hand red. This would match the accented numerals on the dial and increase reading time. readable.
