Review on Feshen Aquarium Adjustable Brackets Freshwater by Diana Kemmler

Ramp looks very nice, good customer service

Initial review November 14: I received a defective unit for the first time. The main light worked fine but the moonlight was on all the time. The seller has asked me to run a series of tests to confirm that it is indeed a malfunction. I appreciate a few things about this model: the optics are really nice and not too flashy, the light output is reasonable (I would appreciate a stronger performance). 25 W per 50 cm length instead of 18 W). I wish the extendable legs could be latched and held in place with a small glue gun. It's good to have a built-in timer, in my case the daily timer worked so I could experiment with it a bit. I liked the automatic start and end time ramps and the fact that you can increase up to 8 periods throughout the day. While it might not be useful, or at least not necessary, it's theoretically nice to have a second "moonlight" timer that you can use to keep track of the night's activity. Unfortunately, on the device I had, this light was constantly on, and I had to turn everything off at night. What also didn't work for me was the color change, so I can't comment on that at the moment. Overall I hope this factory defect isn't a sign of poor workmanship as everything else looks classy and works reliably. long gone. I have ordered an equivalent competitor model to compare with a replacement and will have more information in a few weeks. Update from 24.11. The replacement arrived on November 23rd and I tried all the different features within a day. Everything works fine, I will stop with this manufacturer. The ramp looks very elegant and was well received by my wife (WAF = Wife Acceptance Factor: A+). Communication with the seller (who seems to be the manufacturer or relative, also positive) went well and was polite all the time. He/she responded <6 hours on average, so everything went smooth and easy. I was told to hold the bad block, so I took it apart to (i) try to fix it and (ii) analyze the build quality. It consists of 2 parts: a module containing a microcontroller powered by a 15V 1.5A power supply, an LCD screen and 4 touch buttons. The control module is connected to the ramp (second part) via 4 differential current lines 15 V, 11 V, 9 V and 6 V as well as ground. The second part is the ramp itself. It consists of an aluminum body and a thin acrylic plastic screen that acts as a splash guard. The LED is mounted on a thin aluminum plate, which is glued inside the housing and acts as a heat sink. The controller and LED modules are fully covered (probably by immersion) with soft silicone resin to protect them from water. This choice is a bit strange as it does not allow for maintenance of the modules but also limits the risk of assembly errors leaving unsealed parts. I found the unit to be well built and I suspect the failure of the first was due to an electronics failure as the welding and wiring were of excellent quality. I'll keep the failed device as a backup, but I couldn't fix the always-on night mode. That's it for my full review! In summary this is a pretty good light ramp, it works just like the big brands and has the benefit of having a built in timer that also does a progressive ramp throughout the day if you like it. Additional complexity comes from a small percentage of defective units in a batch. In my opinion, this problem is due to production capacity (which is probably why they come out at such a low price) and not design or materials to match well-known brands. There's no argument that a functional unit can die sooner than a loud one because of the overall quality of the design. I would recommend this product without hesitation, just make sure it works before the after sale period ends.
