I've spent some time comparing different cameras in this class (Canon S2 IS, Sony DSCH1, Fuji S5200) but after going to Best Buy was gone I really stopped with all of them I felt most comfortable with the P850. I was a little nervous as it's been out for a while and doesn't have many professional reviews yet, but it had all the features I was looking for and early user reviews looked good. As far as my photographic history goes, I love to take photos, but I've only ever had regular compact cameras. This will be my first camera that allows me to manually control aperture, shutter speed, etc. I've had the camera for a few days now and had the opportunity to experiment with it. I went to the museum first and found that it takes great pictures considering the low light situation. I was disappointed with the limitations of the Image Stabilization feature, but I understand that it can't do much in low light and therefore slow shutter speeds. I'd say I probably took 1 in 5 shots at high magnification to be clear in a museum. Out in the park was a different story. Even at maximum zoom, all shots were crystal clear. Since I don't know much about aperture, shutter speed, white balance, etc., all the pictures I took this weekend were taken with different scene settings (macro). , flower, museum, landscape etc.). I was amazed at how good the photos turned out - the improvement over the photos I took with my previous digital camera is amazing! I plan to learn more about other features of this camera, but even without advanced settings, it still takes great photos! Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and looking forward to testing all the different features!
