Yesterday I came here for the third time for this meal and for the first time I accidentally looked at the reviews. I didn't bother to check the reviews beforehand as I was already familiar with buying the product locally and was happy with it. I became concerned after seeing another review on here questioning the freshness of this food compared to the same locally purchased food which led me to read another review which had clear differences in the Showing pellets between locally bought and Amazon bought pellets after her dog fell ill. Sick. I hadn't thought about freshness issues before and immediately wished I had the packaging from my last bag (I threw it in the bin and threw the bag away) to check the freshness date. Today I bought a local bag with an expiration date of September 2016. When I got home I compared the pellets: *color difference - local pellet was darker *amount of dust - Amazon's bag had a lot more 'food dust' although it wasn't the bottom of the bin yet *odor - local pellet smelled stronger *granular form - the shape looked quite comparable, contrary to the picture included in one of the other reviews. There seemed to be *very* little difference in that the local pellets had a "thin side" and a "puffy/round side" while the Amazon pellets were mostly "thin" on both sides. After noticing all of this, my husband and I hesitated as to whether there was a problem with the groceries purchased from Amazon and whether this problem was severe enough to spend a little more to buy locally instead. Then we asked the dog. I gave her two shots the same way. the size of each meal when she was very hungry. To be honest I expected her to eat both batches indiscriminately, she is not a picky eater. After sniffing both shots, she clearly preferred the local food, even when I tried to talk her into eating Amazonian food. The dog spoke.
