They are not placed on top of each other. To be fair, they're not meant to be domed, but the closed end has grooves to give the appearance of being domed. You can put an unstable makeshift layer over it, but I wouldn't recommend that. They are an excellent size for canned goods and fizzy drinks. They are durable. I like them but will look for another item to put at least one on top of the other. Overall I like them but will keep looking for a set that can be folded. They're very good, but that's why I'm sending them back and will keep looking. If you're good with one layer, then by all means take it. I bought a variant of this canned pet food from the same seller and am very happy with it as I only need it for my two boxes of Fancy Feast. If they worked, I would keep them all. They are made from a nice transparent durable material and look exactly like the picture.
