They connect very quickly and switch left/right/both smoothly. If you have 1 earbud and listen to music and take the other earbud out of the case, it will connect in about 1.5 seconds. It takes me about 2 seconds to lift it from the case to my ear, so it turns on almost immediately. The music never gets off track either. I have other headphones that go from single headphone to duel mode in 5-10 seconds, so that's refreshing. These headphones are really secure in my ears. I don't plan on doing any real exercises, but at least they don't move when I shake my head. I don't know if I'll ever use the case as a backup battery for my phone, but it's good. know it's an option. My only minor complaint about this is that the magnets that grab the earbuds when they're placed back into the case don't always pull them close enough to the charging receptors; You need to touch it lightly to snap it into place. Also, I'd rather use USB-C for charging, but that's no big deal.
