After I installed Windows 7, the monitor started going dark for literally a second at random intervals. Googling I've found others with the same issue when they have a multi-monitor display like mine. I downloaded the latest graphics driver for my graphics card (ATI Catalyst Control Center) but I couldn't solve the problem. The Hz frequency was set correctly (60) for the optimal resolution of 1920x1200 via DVI. The solution was in OSD (OSD) where I disabled the power saving mode and that seemed to fix the problem. Theory: The monitor tried to go into sleep mode randomly, causing the screen to go black for a second.
