Review on Shift Manual Shifter Adapter Non Threaded by Joe Ashan

I bought it to replace the standard handle on my son's '98 Mustang GT. While I liked the stock grip, he didn't like it as it was "too simple" for his liking and he thought he could "decorate" it a bit. The pen comes with 4 semi-rigid plastic adapters of different sizes. They are designed to fit a switch that is either unthreaded or has steps not used on many switch knobs and sit between it and the black aluminum adapter that the knob screws onto. My son's Mustang fits into the latter category. Apparently it's not standard as it has a 12mm x 1.75 thread pitch whereas a standard factory switch should have a 12mm x 1.25 pitch, which greatly limits the number of knobs available that can be screwed onto it restricts. Plastic and aluminum adapters worked well. Screw (plastic adapters have female threads) or slide the plastic adapter onto the switch as tight as possible, then slide the aluminum adapter onto it. Screw the socket head cap screws (supplied) into the holes drilled in the aluminum adapter and tighten. This is to keep the adapter and handle from moving and it did a commendable job as it was very tight. The final step is to screw the 8-ball handle onto the adapter (it is recommended to lock the threads a bit so it doesn't come loose). Unfortunately, we found this grip to be too large to be comfortable. The handle is the same size as a standard billiard ball. It looked good, but to us, the shifter felt more like a truck than a pony car. This is a subjective opinion, someone may like the feeling but not us. The good news is that the male thread on the aluminum adapter is 12mm x 1.25. This allowed him to select one of the many aftermarket knobs available for Mustangs, so all was not lost. Overall the set works well and looks good. If you need a billiard ball sized shift knob then this kit is for you. If not, then be aware that you might not like it.
