I had the opportunity to follow the development of this line of Epson scanners from the very beginning of their appearance up to this model. Unfortunately, for all the time, Epson has not been able to bring this scanner to mind. The quality of scanning film originals is much inferior even to cheap film scanners, not to mention professional scanners. First of all, the real resolution is not higher than 2022 dpi and, at the same time, interpolation is always used in the scanner, that is, even these unfortunate 2022 points cannot be achieved from it, as they say, in an honest form. The same can be said about the dynamic range. For this reason, you can completely forget about scanning color slides. Shadows do not penetrate and they are very noisy. At the same time, chromatic aberation is also observed, which the scanner introduces into the image, which is apparently due to the quality of the optics used in it. When scanning bw, this only blurs the image even more, but when working with color, this becomes a big problem. Terrible frames! The latter is really treated by buying alternative frames, there are options on ebay. Also the low quality of the scanner mechanics. Therefore, you can forget about scanning in multipass mode (you can use it if you scan through VueScan). It will not give you anything but additional soap. Epson's only real advantage is when scanning grainy BW negatives, where Epson's shortcomings become its advantage, since they allow you to smooth out halftones and get an even better picture tonally than on an expensive scanner. But it's still low resolution, so it's only good if you're working with format negatives. So I would not recommend this scanner to a professional when working with film originals. The only option is by hook or by crook to try to get a real film scanner, best used. Nikon. And forget about Epson as a nightmare.
