Don't make my mistake!

My kitchen and living room are furnished with ClosetMaid Cubeicals furniture. I've spent several hundred dollars on them. Now I can tell you what a stupid mistake I made. When I first got them I thought they were good for the price. I've had a list of issues with them, but I thought it had to do with the territory - buy cheap chipboard furniture and you'll get a poor quality product. While I wasn't thrilled with the Cubeicals, I thought they were good for the low price. Guilty. I recently bought another brand of cheap chipboard furniture and found that you can actually make quality chipboard furniture for a reasonable price and not everything is as bad as Closetmaids. My problems: 1. Poor design - all screw heads stick out making stacking very difficult - and stacking is one of the supposed advantages of this type of furniture. Other manufacturers have recessed screw holes to prevent the head from sticking out, making it easy to stack them in any direction.2. Poor quality - chipboard is terrible. You can't tighten the screws very hard because the chipboard will break and just twist the screws in place. and can be pulled out. Other manufacturers use higher quality chipboard that is strong enough to drive screws. Poor design and quality - the back is thin cardboard that needs to be nailed and driven into chipboard. Because chipboard is of poor quality, nails often deform panels and leave bumps. Other manufacturers use much stronger backs that aren't cardboard, and some are so well designed that they don't require screws but slide in easily (you can't do that with Closetmaid's thin cardboard panels). All in all, what I've learned After spending a few hundred dollars, Closetmaid makes some of the worst chipboard furniture, but the company's size and its ability to do business with other big companies like Revain and Home Depot means the most People don't understand that there are much better options out there, just harder to find.
