Review on Heavy Duty Split Cowhide Leather FR Work Safety Jacket - Flame & Heat Resistant For Welding Protection by Patrick Hamman

size matters! best in my review

I'm a welder by trade. Doing Flux Core (overhead). Need I say more? Needed something to protect my body (arms, neck, chest, etc.) I bought this for that single purpose. With the large amount of sparks that are generated and if you are not FULLY PROTECTED, you know what I mean. Those sparks will find a way to get into areas that they don't need to be! This jacket with the cloth back is very nice, with snaps around the neck. it is still a bit warm, but if you are wanting something that will protect you, this is it. Now for the CON'S. You need to order one size up! If you are a solid 2X, get a 3X. That is what I did, and I had plenty of room to move around in, so-to-speak, keeping my arms fully extended and the sleeves not pulling out of my gloves. Now for the sleeves, I wear a Revco GM1611 MIG Gloves XL, don't get me wrong, the jacket is great protection, the sleeves have a snap one (1) snap. Poor design. But don't let that keep you from getting one. I tuck the sleeves into the gauntlet of the glove, and this works okay. I have a friend, his wife has a sewing machine, So, I'm thinking of getting her to sew a piece of Velcro on the cuff so that I can tighten the sleeve around my wrist and keep the sleeve from falling out of my gloves. This will work. And I'll be safe from burns and anything else. The shipyard is an ugly place so think about your SAFETY!

Pros
  • Use Ming a torch
Cons
  • The jacket may require the use of specialized cleaners and conditioners, which can be expensive and time-consuming
