Check out the book first. I didn't really like the projects, after sitting with the book and applying the knowledge of vintage fashion I realized this book is worth it. Below I will focus on the pros and cons of the book. Pros: I like to find everyday inspiration as I think it's important to see surviving garments in order to be able to reproduce styles. The style department gallery was also very good. I think this will help someone with vocabulary and some designs for those unfamiliar with the types of clothing of the period. It's also good for Pinterest or regular web searches for a specific name. To be honest, I've never given Rick Wrack much thought, and I'm glad that point was raised. section is fine. Scallops are a common problem with leotards and I'm glad Gertie caught this bug and corrected it. Cons: When sewing in general, I prefer step-by-step photos along with written text. In the age of technological advancement that we have, I would like the authors to leave the illustration for the lesson in the past and provide photos. As usual, if you're having trouble with customization, you won't see it here. The Adjust section does not show examples of mismatches, it only provides illustrations for correcting the pattern. On coarse and non-wool fabrics, it takes practice to be able to tell for sure if the fabric isn't terrible. I don't know how well someone without grain detection experience will understand this section. The editing part could have been more detailed and with photos. Step by step instructions could be used for the entire pleating section. If you don't know how to fold, this isn't the best source. The 1940s style blouse wasn't a good idea for me, but I thought it would be brilliant to make it a twist on a bomber jacket. Keep in mind that more experience in fitting and pattern making is required. The ribbon section would have been better with an additional illustration showing the finished product. If I didn't already know how to create a group. The illustrations would not be so clear. Bottom line: is this a must-have book for vintage style sewing? no As I always say, Gertie isn't so much about historically accurate clothing and style as she is about combining modern and vintage. That's good as always, but you may need other sources as some of the styles in the book are not time correct. what it was meant for. All in all, not a bad book that offers good possibilities for variation. So is this book worth it? Yes. Notes: As opposed to using a straight stitch and stretching the fabric slightly, the triple straight stitch also works well on knitwear. This is a powerful sting.
