First, I had my eye on a DSLR. But in my world there is a need for a camera that is simpler, more compact and easier to carry. Enter - this is the Canon Powershot Elph 520. It offers impressive zoom, good flash and takes some very good shots. It offers some features like 1080 video fill with sound and image stabilization. It also has a dedicated video button, so you don't have to turn the camera off and on like you would a camcorder - you can do it on the fly. You can browse the menus and tweak a few other settings, but for the average point-and-shoot user, all it takes is to charge the battery and go! It fits easily in your pocket (about 3/4 inch thick) and ignites fairly quickly. The only improvement I'd like to see is the ability to continuously shoot faster - maybe there's a menu setting I should look at?
