Setting your own code is very easy - just follow the instructions on the packaging. I really like the button function that allows you to open it after unlocking it. It's a bit bigger than I would like a luggage lock to be, but that's ok because I didn't buy it for luggage. I was tired of my 2 year old painting all the walls so I got my 5 year old to lock up her crayons and markers in a little tool box. I installed the code for her, told her what it was, showed her how to use it (once) and she had no problem getting in and out of the box on her own. Best of all, it has withstood many a tug and tug from a two year old and my walls have not been painted since! Five stars!
