Solid surface! "firm " pillow too.

Thick, durable bamboo table top, similar to a chopping board. It's really the opposite of flimsy plastic like the one that fell apart after 13 years that I'm replacing. But the bottom of the pillow is bad. It's not soft at all, it's very firm! If it's memory foam, then it's so dense that it just sits on your lap instead of conforming to it like a pillow. This is about the same comfort you would get from a towel used for padding, despite being several inches thick. The fabric that wraps the foam adds stiffness as it doesn't stretch and fits snugly, further preventing the foam from compressing. Seriously considering going back. Note that it's also a lot heavier than the flimsy plastic top. I think it could be twice as light for the same strength and a lot lighter and still strong enough for what I use it for! There is a slot for the tablet on the back. I was happy to see that the length was long enough for my large tablet, unlike most advertised. However, when I received it, I found that it wasn't _wide_ enough and the tablet wouldn't slide in with the back cover attached. I tried to put my phone in the slot for better speakerphone use and it fell out as soon as I moved the table a bit! So it's useless. There is a block at the bottom edge to keep your stuff from sliding down. In contrast to the rest of the block, it has a quality problem. The bottom edge, where the block meets the tabletop, has jagged undercuts and looks like it was removed with a chisel. It's glued on with wire nails visible as metal dots along the top edge and the worst part is that one of the nails is bent at right angles and sticks out past the front edge where it feels like a slight ridge. The cushion is attached with Velcro so it can be removed and replaced. Another feature worth recommending is the elastic band that crosses the top left corner of the table. It's actually attached to a pillow. It's supposed to hold the phone or something, but it's totally unsuitable for that.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging
