Backpack frustration

I've compared many small hiking backpacks for short day trips to replace the old shoulder backpack we've been using for years. I need a bag that will fit a couple of stainless steel water bottles, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray and a few other family essentials. Also, my husband and I will take turns carrying our backpack. I thought this package would suit us and I really wanted it. The water bottle pocket is very narrow. A 16 ounce disposable water bottle fits well, but the 20 ounce stainless steel bottle was extremely difficult to fit. The biggest problem for us was the belts. I'm of a petite build and the straps sit on the edge of my shoulders and fall off. There was no way I could walk around with that. Also, the chest strap was right on my chest and there was no other position for it. My husband has a bigger build, and even with the straps straightened, he felt like Chris Farley (Fat Man in Small Coat). It may be suitable for a person of average build. Unfortunately we will send it back.
