They seem to be really waterproof. So far, urine has never run through any of them. I potty train my son and have bought about two dozen to put on his mattress, on the carpet in his room and on our couches. I'm very happy with them, they work, are soft, don't make him sweat, no crumpled plastic and super cute design to boot! The only downside can be that they shrink a bit after the first wash. So unless you have a severe poop stain, I would suggest only washing them in lukewarm water, not hot. I've also put them in the dryer which can also shrink them a bit. But I feel like I should, it takes two days to dry on a hanger. They stay in the dryer for a very long time as they absorb water well. So make sure you wash them first thing in the morning so you can put them back on your bed before bed. Or buy more to spin if you can afford it.
