Review on Fellowes 8030401 Laptop GoRiser - iPhone: Experience Ultimate Portability and Device Compatibility by Puggzy Wallin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works well with one caveat for Macbook - 6 Months Update July 2014

Another user mentioned difficulties he or she encountered when using a 15 inch aluminum Macbook used this GoRiser. Well I have to say, after receiving it today and placing my 15 inch aluminum Macbook Pro laptop on top of the GoRiser, I sat it on my lap and started typing as the laptop slowly slid down. .riser. As another reviewer warned! However, for the sake of convenience, it was worth the effort to have that fold-out stand to keep the hot underside of my laptop off my hips. The black rubber pads, designed to provide friction to keep the laptop from slipping, peel off fairly well and cleanly, leaving a strip of double-sided tape that's still tacky. I took plain white drawer foam pad (the same stuff that makes a lot of cheap plaid spout pads), trimmed it, and stuck it into the slots where the black rubber was. They held up well, but I added another piece on top and in between those two pads and glued it in place (and it doesn't block the vents). My laptop stays secure even when I tilt the GoRiser about 40 degrees from horizontal - WAY more than a riser will allow when on your lap. Also, I checked to make sure the added washer does not affect the latching/locking of the riser in the closed/flat position and that it is normally closed and latched. I wish I could give it 4 stars, but given that I had to change it - even with my minimal effort and even the fact that I had these materials lying around - I still have to give it 3, albeit after my repair , I'd say it's easy a 5. If you don't have these materials, if you have a Dollar Tree in your area, head down to their kitchen department and grab three packs of can opener blocks. One of those pads is all you need for switching, while you can use the others for those pesky pickle jars. UPDATE: July 2014 Well I've had this stand for six months now and use it almost every day. I have just upgraded from a 3 star rating to 2 because this item is not very durable. I don't scatter the thing at all, I don't scold it, I don't take it with me into dangerous situations and yet I have three small tears along the bottom and on both sides right down the middle of each edge (starting the side of the legs if they're for unfolded for use). It's pretty cheap and flimsy plastic. It works, but I wouldn't buy another one if this one finally broke, in the not too distant future I guess.

Pros
  • Cooling Pads and External Fans
Cons
  • Makes me angry
