Does what it's supposed to do - offers a clear theft protection. These things aren't designed to stop the most determined and well-equipped thieves, they're primarily designed to deter theft. Very useful for things like hotels, trains or other situations where you really don't want to take your laptop everywhere but otherwise can't easily secure it. No security is 100% perfect, and a thief with bolt cutters, or just anyone who doesn't care about damaging what they're trying to steal, can still get away with your laptop. But then *nothing* works except a big safe bolted to the floor, which is another category of devices. This lock is small enough to carry in your laptop bag and rolls back up when you're done using it. It's easy to change the combination to something only you know. (Just make it something to remember.) I wish the cable was a bit longer, but then it would get a little unwieldy, so its length is probably a reasonable compromise.
