I bought these for my elderly father to have on hand in case of a power outage. I have tested them and they work as advertised and put out more light than the other set I bought (see below). During a power outage, the last thing I need to do is picture my dad stumbling in the dark to find his flashlights. . it eliminates that need and I was so impressed that I bought a set to take home. They turn on automatically when the device detects that the outlet is off. You have the opportunity to turn on the front light or the ceiling light during such an event - in any case, it is very bright and you will find it without problems when it is on. At that point you just turn it off and use it like a normal (bright) headlight or you can switch to a mini headlight. For comparison when you buy others like this one. At the same time I purchased a set of 2 Emergency LED Flashlights, Shutdown Alarm and Night Light (ARCBB200W-DBL) The American Red Cross Blackout Buddy for $22.48. They (a pair) cost $17.98. so multifunctional and not that impressive so regardless of the implicit red cross approval I'd ditch them and settle for these Amerelle lights.
