I'm looking forward to the Lego Harry Potter advent calendar. I was looking forward to that. While there are some interesting and unusual items, too many of them are very similar to what we already got in the Great Hall - tables and benches, a fireplace, variations on the banners of the house, and the repetition particularly annoys me. McGonagall and Dumbledore figures. After all, the Great Hall is such an integral part of the new Lego Harry Potter series. I think most people willing to shell out $40 for an HP advent calendar have already bought the Great Hall. So there seems to be a lot of missed opportunities where Lego could have made more interesting advent calendar choices. Furnished. For example, instead of repeating McGonangall, why not do a new Mrs. Weasley? I expect Lego to release more members of the Weasley family in future sets, but in the meantime it would be nice to have a new Mrs. Weasley. And since she was the one who made the personalized sweaters that were a special part of Harry's first Christmas at Hogwarts, it would be particularly appropriate to include her in this advent calendar. Rather than another dining table, it would be better if Lego included Harry's Invisibility Cloak as an advent calendar element, as Harry got it for Christmas. Likewise, I would have preferred Lego to include Filch in this advent calendar instead of Flitwick. Finally, Filch shows up as Harry uses the cloak to explore the forbidden part of the library. And Filch's Lego figure is harder to find than Flitwick's because it's included in the Whomping Willow set, which is quite expensive but far less important than the Great Hall set. And why couldn't Lego do anything new with the Dumbledore character? Maybe dress him up as Santa (since Dumbledore is already looking a lot like Santa this year) or at least add his tall wizard hat. Of course, it's easy to suggest alternatives afterwards. Don't let my comments fool you into losing sight of the various delightful parts of HP's new advent calendar. I just hope Lego includes more fancy details when they create the next HP advent calendar.
