Review on DARIO Blood Glucose Monitor Kit: Test & Manage Diabetes With 25 Strips, 10 Sterile Lancets (Android USB-C) by Heather Brown

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very useful device in a manageable unit

The reason for four stars is the inability to use the device directly with an armored case. I first tried to use an extension cable which inhibited reading the blood glucose although the machine recognized the strip insertion. I then got a Cellularize USB-C extension which was compatible with the device. The device itself is compact and holds the reading unit, the strips(in a secure case locked into a dedicated socket), and a lancet device all within a watch-pocket size case. You have to load the lancet but if you preload the lancet and retract the spring mechanism you can keep one covered lancet ready for use. The lancets are very small, and you may have to adjust the puncture depth(there are four levels available to set), but once set the mechanism is quite stable. The cellphone app has lots of storage for diet and exercise logs as well as blood glucose records. The app automatically connects with Dario feedback and counseling routines, which may prove useful in keeping you on track. The strips come in lots of 25 and each lot has its own secure case-when the case in the device is empty you replace the whole case and not just the strips. A small problem for me, who tests only infrequently, is that each case of strips is marked only good for 30 days after opening(I haven't tested the actual reliability after 30 days). The optional Dario carrying case is a bit small for storing extra supplies, but at least if the unit were to fall nothing would come out on the ground.

Pros
  • The monitor requires only a tiny blood sample, making the testing process quick and painless
Cons
  • It may be hard to find replacement parts for the device
