Instructions for opening the lid are difficult to read. To save you the heartache that so many of us have had, here is my guide to opening this lid for both kids and adults. 1. Locate the small holes on the edge of the cover. My lid had four holes. 2. Select any two holes next to each other. Take a flathead screwdriver or blade and cut a slot from the selected hole to the edge of the cover. Repeat on the second selected hole. Lift the edge of the lid between the two holes you selected (it should be easier to bend). Once you've opened the lid a bit, keep moving around the lid. Now you can open the entire lid. BTW, great product and my feet feel good a few days after using it.
