Review on Xit XT72MP Pro Series 72-Inch Monopod (Black): Superior Support for Ultimate Photography and Videography Experience by Gary Lucas

Revainrating 2 out of 5

A little wobbly which is not what you want.

What initially attracted me to this monopod was the low price, the height and the quick release. This is my first monopod so I didn't want to overdo it on the cost. I'm over 6ft tall and don't want to bend down to use a cane. I also wanted to be able to use this without adding another head or leaving it on all the time. It touches on all of those things, but there are caveats about some of them. My biggest problem with this monopod is just the quick release head. It's not easy to screw it into the bottom of my camera (60D) because the stop on the screw can only go down at a certain point; If something isn't right, you might have to figure out how to loosen the screw an extra quarter turn to free the lock, or give up a bit. The big problem is that the QUICK RELEASE is NOT FIRMLY attached to the top of the monopod. When you reattach the camera to the stick as if it fell apart, the connection wobbles a bit, which isn't what you want. It may still be better than you or I can keep it, but it's not what you want. Moving on from the quick release base/quick chuck, everything feels a little wobbly, but what do you expect for under $20? The locks are easy to launch and seem to hold up to early testing. As long as he says it's good. When it comes to the pad/spike, I think there is too much room for the pad; This thing can expose about an inch of metal at its tip. I don't fully trust this monopod with my camera and lens, but I think it can help soothe shaky hands with a little effort. I am considering returning this item based on effort but will give it one last chance to satisfy my usage before making that decision.
