The metal clasp is of very good quality but although the belt is said to be leather it is not solid leather but just a sheath with some sort of inner padding. Unlike most older styles of adjustable belts, where the belt could be adjusted indefinitely, this belt (and most others) has a "locking mechanism" that does not extend to the end of the belt. Therefore, in order to properly fasten the belt, it must pass AT LEAST 5 inches past the metal buckle. I have no idea why the designer of this belt style doesn't pull out a snap mechanism at the end of the belt, but he doesn't. like this belt. I also have no idea if this applies to similar closure straps, but I assume they are only made by one supplier and that applies.
