I had high hopes when ordering. Although the price of Christmas lights was a bit steep. Each string has been twisted and is not that difficult to untangle and hang up. But as I set them up and used them, I increasingly found that they fell short of my expectations. And here's why: They're listed as IP44. This means that like most Christmas lights they should be fine and withstand the most anticipated weather conditions like rain or snow. But if you read the description carefully, it says they are NOT waterproof and the control box should not be exposed to moisture. Well, you only have 4 or 5 feet with no way to increase it. So there is no way to add an extension. In my case, that meant hanging it in a plastic bag under the eaves, making it difficult to change the settings. This is where issue #2 comes into play. You have a light curtain that cannot and should not be controlled individually. But with eight modes advertised, I was expecting a little more. What are you getting? You get 24 strings with 25 lights each. What one light in the chain does, all the lights in the chain do. So no waterfall effects. No templates. Either the string is on or off. The lines are then divided into two groups. Rows with odd numbers and rows with even numbers. What row 1 does, all odd-numbered rows do. So the 8 possible effects are what group of lights are on (odd, even, or all) and how fast or how long they are on (flashing, dimming, or on). You end up with limited effects, which I think are more dependent on how quickly they can induce an attack. What causes problem #3. A button is used to toggle through 8 options which are printed on the control box and are almost unreadable. Especially when you're standing on the stairs in the dark. And you'll never be sure which mode you've chosen until you wait a few seconds to watch them. And even then, and this is going to be a deal-killer, it seems like they don't stay in the same mode all the time. At the end, everyone reverts to cycling all modes. So I couldn't leave it behind a curtain of twinkling lights. And modes in which odd and even strings alternately light up make you yawn. Add to that the strings are spaced 6-8 inches apart, not a few inches like in the pictures, and you're in for an expensive disappointment. The positive side is that these are LED lights which appear to be well made. So perhaps in the hands of a creative person and when used indoors an interesting display can be created. But hanging them on a curtain outside straight from the box isn't enough. If you're buying them to impress your neighbors, think again.
