Review on ๐Ÿ“บ SS-55 Storm Shell Outdoor TV Enclosure, 45-55 inch by Richard Mangum

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Expensive but works.

Reviewed 11/11/2020 after 4 weeks Ownership: I took this case to install a TV outside next to my hot tub. I paired it with a 43" Westinghouse Roku 4K which fits perfectly. 44" can get tight. There is also plenty of room behind the TV for some other items like remotes and other devices like an external Roku, Fire Stick, Chromecast etc. Installation was easy, if you have a solid wall or fence post you won't have a problem, it uses 3 vertically aligned screws so it can be installed anywhere you have a post or post without worrying about width /Having to do spacing.Since I wanted to mount it to a fence/wall using diagonal battens, I first screwed the 2x4 to the battens that extend from the bottom to the top of the fence to take the load, and then the cabinet tv mount mounted on it. It won't go anywhere even if people pull the TV to move it. I snagged it on sale for $239 but I've seen that it costs $349. I wouldn't pay $349 for this case, $239 is a stretch because after all it's just a plastic case with a built in TV mount, the mount itself will cost around $50. That's why I only rated it a 3/5 for value. We've had a couple of heavy showers since it was installed (there's one right now that reminds me to write this review) and so far so good, no water seeps into the shell. There is a hole for the cable covered with a rubber grommet at the bottom and diagonally downwards so that no water can get in there either. Firstly if the TV dies or just gets old and outdated it can be replaced with something better, the case still works and I can use any TV available. Second, it hides the TV well, deterring potential thieves. However, there is one big disadvantage when buying this TV compared to a weatherproof TV: you cannot use the TV in the rain, the cover only protects when it is closed. I would like to see the option of purchasing a clear/clear front cover to make this possible. Despite a 3/5 for the price, I still give it a 5/5 overall. It's certainly better than turning the TV outside and back in again every time you want to watch a movie in the hot tub.
