I was so scared because of the other reviews but I really didn't have a choice. We had some old family videos that we needed to watch and didn't have much time to convert them. The only option was to buy this thing and use old cassettes. After reading horror stories, I noticed a pattern. Everyone complained that they had problems with the foil coming loose and then getting stuck in the machine. I found this to be entirely correct and entirely avoidable. Those old enough to remember the tapes know that they are pulled through the main unit that transmits the images. Too tight and the band will break. Too loose and it will snag on internal components and cause a mess. The solution was to install the mini bands very carefully (I didn't care brand) and then use my finger to twist the video crank slightly to pull the band over my finger. I found that every time I did this I had no problems. When I didn't, we had a rat's nest. So work on it, yes. You are perfect, no. Make sure they fit properly and are snug. It helps me.
