I put this review aside hoping to get a real test and not just a driveway shovel test. Eventually I was able to test it in over 3 gallons of water. I got this pen after purchasing a pack of 1/4" GoPro mount adapters which worked very well. I used one of these to make my own pen which I compare this floating pen to. My first test was in a bucket while washing a truck.The handle floated and closed tightly so water didn't get into the handle.The lid has a double o-ring which holds water well and makes the handle suitable for holding small items. for example some keys or maybe a spare SD card or a small backup battery. I have every intention of testing different weights on this hold to see how it affects my swim. What I noticed about the bucket is that the handle floats vertically, allowing the camera to be held underwater. I figured it would be good for visibility in low light or murky water as the yellow connector is kept above the surface. After several soaks, the interior was completely dry. So far, so good. The car wash submersion didn't seem to affect the grip, seals, or wrist strap. I was later able to test the pen in a larger body of water, at a local pool. I realized the handle was floating because the bucket held him in that position. Everything in the pool floats horizontally for even better visibility. I was able to take some photos and video, then let go of the camera without worrying about her drowning or being stepped on while sitting on her side. The handle is sized for a comfortable grip and the rubber surface is well textured without being uncomfortable. Good length leash, adjustable. I didn't know the pen came with a leash so I was pleasantly surprised when I pulled it out of the box. Everything is perfect for my Hero+. I have no hesitation in recommending everyone to buy a GoPro pen, levitating or not. I had previously made a pen in which I thought I would make it to my specifications but preferred this one.
