Review on Fossil Men's Everett Hybrid Smartwatch HR with Always-On Display, Heart Rate Monitor, Activity Tracker, Smartphone Alerts, Message Previews by Brad Dotson

Silently impressive

Every time I test the smartwatch, I wear it for a few days and then either give it to my wife or throw it in the dust of my desk drawer. I love the idea of smartwatches, but as soon as I put them on my wrist I'm reminded of their limitations. Infinite battery charge. Difficult to navigate the menu. The dog has an ugly athletic look (because god forbid anyone would want to wear a smartwatch without looking like they're about to compete in a triathlon). I've disliked every smartwatch I've ever worn, but I still grab them whenever I get a chance to try them out, hoping that one day I'll somehow get one I really like. Well, today is that day. It seems Fossil Everett was made especially for me. First, they really do look like a watch that a working adult could wear. I only have one digital watch, a classic Armitron with cool retro pockets, and one is more than enough for me. I want an analog clock and Everett offers it (though with real hands, not their digital representations). Second, the smart part of this watch takes a backseat when you don't need it. There's no random blinking and beeping on your wrist like you're wearing a sci-fi tracking beacon. The screen looks like it's using the same technology as the Kindle Paperwhite, so it looks like the display is printed directly onto the watch face with no harsh backlighting. That way he won't jump at you. If all you want to do is read the time and don't care about your BPM or your latest news, you can safely ignore it all. two weeks between charges. This is perfect for me as I have to wind my automatic watch if I don't wear it for a few days. Charging the watch every two weeks is not intrusive at all. In terms of features, this watch offers exactly what I want, no frills. I need heart rate and step count. At times I might want to use the sleep tracking feature, but it's app-focused so I don't have to scroll through a mindless menu when I don't want to use it. I also might want to control my music from my phone when I'm lazy and I want my phone to ring at the touch of a button when I can't find it, which it does at least five times a week. I just love this business. I like that they look, feel and function like a regular watch. I like that it doesn't squeak or yell at me with useless information all day. I love how when I need the smart features they're there right away, and when I don't need them they politely step back. These watches are impressive. light five stars.
