Review on πŸ”Œ Revolutionize Your Data Transfers with the PixelFlash USB Type-C Invincible Connection SD + MicroSD Modular Card Reader by Jonathan Wilson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Nice shape but not like a USB 3 card reader

I have three USB card readers including this one. There seems to be a large number of differences in how well they work. For testing I took a medium speed card and a high speed card and used two different speed estimation software. Because all the cards I've ever tested vary in file size, they often don't match the rating on the card. but since i only look at differences, i'm not concerned with compliance with the manufacturer's specifications. Of the three, the Pixelflash was consistently slower, especially when writing to the card. The faster the card, the bigger the difference. For the slower card (rated at 20m/s), the write speed was 15.2 with Pixelflash and 17.4 with Transcend (for reference only) and the read speed was just over 1m/s slower. With the high-speed card, write speeds were only 17 with Pixelflash and 32 with Transcend. (Read speeds were closer, but the other two readers were over 20% faster). Speed card and using USB 3. All card readers were detected as USB 3 (first thing I checked) and the read speed on the high speed card was faster than USB 2 would allow, just much slower than the others. Update: I checked multiple cards and three different computers to be honest. and have different speeds depending on the computer (not all USB ports seem to be created equal). Let's say the bigger the difference between this card and the other two I have. I also checked my drivers. and encountered the first problem. There was a new driver listed on the Asus computer, so I downloaded and installed it. Only to find that I now have a dead USB 3 port. So I went to the manufacturer of the original port and found that each port required two drivers and Asus only had one. You need to update both to have a working port. After all this fun I went to the Pixelflash website to install their drivers. And at least on Asus with Windows 8, the software wouldn't install and said it couldn't find the reader. I don't know if this is an issue with Windows 8 or newer drivers. The new drivers did not affect the speed of a reader or card. As a side note, my AMD based laptop had 3x the fastest USB. there are no new discs for it. Roughly speaking, the transend reader (the fastest of the three I have) is twice as fast as this one on the fastest card I have, and the difference diminishes as the card slows down until you get to class 10 cards come where transend is about 20% faster.
