It comes assembled - is there anything else to say as many others don't and looks super complicated? When I first received it, I found it quite thin. Especially since I had it opened the first time, it barely opened. But when I started sticking photos on each layer and putting little messages on each pocket, the weight increased and of course gravity opened the gift easier and faster, and then you really see the "explosion" effect! I love the colored pens they look great on the black box and stickers. I liked decorative tape best, so I bought it elsewhere. I'm over the top decorating this piece for my boyfriend's going away gift and planning to make another one for my mom's 70th birthday. Only bad. It's a gift you put all your effort into and secretly wish someone would make it for you! HAHA. It's unique - I highly recommend it.
