After about a week of testing I came to the conclusion that this device works successfully. If you're recording a lesson or presentation for voice activation, it works well. Turn on the position, hold minus until the indicator flashes and goes off, and it's in voice-activated mode. When viewing the files, although it appears to be just one file, they are periodic records. For some strange reason files are added instead of creating separate files by date and timestamp. Because of this, this item is not currently suitable for babysitting or home monitoring. When the recording began and ended cannot be determined. Keep this in mind when purchasing this device. I understand this works fine for recording a presentation, setting a class or something similar. Just hearing a 5 hour soundbite and not understanding what time frame is being recorded prevents it from being a reliable monitoring tool for security or spying.
