Works as expected but stinks

I like the reversibility feature. That works great. However, I cannot praise this belt. I suspect it's the plastic layer that smells the most. I left it on my porch in the sun for about 5 days and it still stinks too much to wear even though my nose is more than 2 feet from my waist. What happened to real leather? I saw before ordering that it had a plastic layer but I didn't think it would smell that bad. Maybe it's better if I release it for a few weeks.
