Ready to use - looks really nice. The blue is bright and the quilt is nice and thick. I bought this for a guest room as I really didn't want to spend too much money. I can't say I don't like it but now I will definitely pay some money for quality sheets. I always wash everything before first use. The sheets came out of the dryer and OH MY! I haven't ironed linens in decades. My mother taught me how to iron sheets when I was a little girl. I really never felt the need to do it again. I ironed the sheets tonight! They came out of the dryer so wrinkled I'd hesitate to put them on a spare bed. (takes me a long time to feel it) The rest of the set looks very nice.
