CHECK HARDWARE VERSION! Doesn't really work with H3MB16 hardware

So I have H3MB16 hardware but the description says it works with this hardware, only you need N2MB02/H3MB18 for extended detection and bi-directional communication. Sound features to work with that weren't really important to me. The description clearly states that you can still view it with H3MB16, which I don't think is true. This happened after I updated the firmware and of course restarted/reset both the camera and the NVR and also tried 2 different ports and 2 different cables. Good: Typical excellent quality from reolink. The device seemed well made, heavy, solid and the picture quality was very good. I like the socket head mounting screw which makes adjustments easy. The optical zoom seemed to work really well, and it worked plug and play with the ethernet cable and the NVR (except the "playback" part didn't fully work). Bad: 1. I couldn't see the video on the TV I connected directly to the NVR, but the video seemed to work on the app and desktop client2. The description claims "color night vision", which of course doesn't exist. I should have read more carefully and understood that "color night vision" means the camera will automatically illuminate an area with bright LED lights to turn it into day at night and give you color video. For us, this camera is somewhat hidden to keep an eye on our neighbors' driveway, so I didn't want the light to draw all that attention every time it detects movement. A few Reolink videos show how to turn off the LED in an app or desktop client, but all of my software didn't have these options/features, presumably because I'm using an older (huge 12 month old) version of the hardware. 3. Two-way audio didn't seem to work either, as the description made clear Freak: Of course, there was no support from Reolink. A few videos showing me screens from software not included in my version of the app or desktop clients were all I could find to turn off the lights. No help watching this on a real NVR. Emailed and tried to chat with Reolink but got no response so had to send this device back and just get a dumber one with no fancy features. One might think that a firmware update would fix the software and enable advanced features and functionality. to turn off the bright LED, but I think that's a limitation of some hardware. I believe if you have the N2MB02/H3MB18 hardware this camera can work very well so I still give it 3 stars. However, be sure to go to the NVR settings and check before you order and waste time on it.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Modern

No two way communication when connected through ReoLink NVR is very disappointing
