I was very impressed with the look of the box. And there wasn't much to disappoint after treating them a bit. The leather on both the strap and cups is supple and comfortable. The stitching on the strap is even and seems to last a while. The processing of the plastic cups is also pretty good. The only concern I had during assembly was that the paint on the hinge part of the earbuds was a bit worn. They sit well on my head and I had no discomfort after walking my dog. They even stayed in place while I was playing with my cat! The sound has a few idiosyncrasies that I can't ignore. When I first lit it, I heard a distinct hiss. I didn't hear it at medium volume, but if you're in a quiet room at a low volume, you'll definitely notice it. If you turn off the headphones and instead plug them directly into your music player with a cable, there's no hiss. I think they sound much better in passive mode (with the cable plugged in)... although I soooo bought them for Bluetooth! The other sound issue I have is that it's actually quite loud when you press the buttons. I wish they had quieter buttons or more soundproofing between the buttons and my ear. I noticed in the manual that they have a bass boost feature! I tried it, it definitely adds bass. They're already pretty bass heavy, IMHO, so I don't really care, but it was cool, which I wasn't expecting. Overall I'm happy with them, I think they deserve somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. They are great for walking or working out when I need to listen to music at a medium volume. The controls work well, although it took a while to get used to the various key commands. If they ever break and I need to replace them, I'll probably try something else. Update (March 13, 2018): I've been working with them for about a month now and I have a lot to say. First, 40 hours of battery life is real. This is really, really, really what I got. It was very impressive. I charged it once and used it almost every day. Second, I tried a few aftermarket pillows for fun (see link below). The headphones seemed good at first, but I think they improved the looks over the stock headphones. WICKED CUSHIONS AT M50X INTERCHANGEABLE EAR CUSHIONS - Compatible with ATH M50 / M50x / M40 / M40X / Sony MDR / Shure SRH 440 / monoprice 8323 / takstar hi 2050 and other oval shaped headphones. I wish the wires connecting the headphone strap to the cups were longer. They limit the cup's range of motion, and I'm a little concerned that since the wire restricts movement, not the headphone case, there's a risk I'll snap it after a while. The I My M-Audio Q40's, on the other hand, have cups that spin in circles (see image) so there's no risk of breaking wires by simply rotating the cups too far. In other messages, Avantree reached out to me and stated that they are looking into the key noise I mentioned. It's great that you are reading this review and interested in improving your product.
