- Use the thin end for light fabrics and the thick end for thicker fabrics. The spacer plate creates a thread core when sewing on buttons. Each end has a different thickness for a larger or smaller rod of filament. It can also be used when sewing heavy seams to compensate for the height of the presser foot.
