Looks like a solid thick cable but it was causing screen ghosting, after I removed it and connected the screens with a longer splitter there were no problems. I suspect it was just a bad connection, also unscrewing it was even more of a headache as the plastic had somehow come loose from the screw making it difficult to detach from the monitor's VGA port. Not durable at all.
