These will fit a 17.3 inch laptop with a case and you will need this case as this case does not have a shock protection on the bottom. The thin strip of foam used to line the bottom of the laptop compartment is pushed aside by the laptop making it unusable leaving only a thin outer material between the laptop and the bottom I'm not returning it as I have an old bag with a removable protective material that comes with it I line the bottom of this bag. I also use a stronger strap from an old bag because another reviewer pointed out that the clips on this bag's strap are weak and can fail. Other than that, it's a good carry-on size and I like the layout of the compartments and pockets, so two stars instead of one.
