Took 5 minutes from unboxing to working HD channels. The antenna array is very thin and the length of the included cable allows you to place the TV really high on a wall or window. I'm sure a signal booster will improve reception if you are more than 80 miles from a signal provider. I'm only 10 miles away because while it's not necessary, I added it anyway. I decided to place it high up in the window to maximize signal reception. Scanning channels was a simple push of a button when selecting an antenna as the source on your HDTV. I didn't connect it through a cable box, therefore instructions may vary. I could then select the HD channels I wanted to keep and voila! I had high definition TV from local channels and didn't pay for cable. Nice feature for a great price.
