Almost all of the ligaments that provide lateral support (prevents rolling/dislocating) in both of my ankles have been shot due to multiple injuries over the years and I am unable to to do this active sports without braces. These stirrup ankle braces are ***absolutely the best design for lateral support.*** They are also the easiest/quickest braces to put on and take off and do not restrict ankle articulation, which is exactly what I need. I've been using Active Ankle braces for years and they are a little more comfortable than these Mueller braces, but both work really well. I've also found that Active Ankle braces last longer, so if you wear them like I do, they may be more beneficial in the long run. My last Mueller brace was wearing out quickly and I switched to Active Ankle for both legs, but I saw it was a good price so I decided to try and see a Muller brace for my not-so-bad right leg how she holds. compared to the Active Ankle on my left. If you need good lateral support from an ankle brace then the Active Ankle is definitely your best bet, but these Muller braces also do the job well and cost less.
