First I have to explain how I use my mug. I only use it to drink water. This is my replacement for the water bottle I keep on my desk at home. I'm not taking it anywhere, nor do I have to. I have found that water bottles always get smelly after a few days of use and are always difficult to clean. Also, regular cups left out all day taste weird. My desk is in a converted basement, so I'm not sure if the air below is contributing in any way. But yes! That was my concern and I figured maybe a regular mug with a lid would do! I like the structure and shape of this mug. That's a good grip. Very light glass, but still feels strong. The lid will be slightly sucked in, but it will surely leak! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone planning to use it as a portable water bottle replacement. If you drop it it will shatter (because of the glass of course) but also if you tip it in a bag or similar it will leak! The silicone teat on the lid has 2 small holes through which it will flow. However, I think the tiny holes help oxygenate your cup so no smelly microorganisms grow in your cup. I did a little research and found that my old water bottle smelled like microorganisms growing in the absence of oxygen. This mug balances this well without exposing my water as much air to change the flavor. I left my cup on the table for a day and drank it again to find the taste of the same crystal clear water! The only downside is that the lid stinks. It's kind of a woody-grapey-oily scent. It smells like the wooden cutting boards I made in my 6th grade carpentry class. They were very woody and coated in vegetable oil. (The lid isn't greasy, by the way. It just smells a little like it.) I suspect the smell will dissipate soon. The taste of the water has not changed at all and this mug is easy to clean compared to a water bottle. Otherwise I would recommend this mug!
