Made the problem worse
Soldered in the original sensor and soldered this one in here. Soldering is pretty easy with a braid. However, after installing the new sensor, left and right movements were no longer registered. Checked the solder joints again and they looked clean. Just in case, I removed the sensor and restarted but ran into the same issue. Save money and just buy a new controller. Those sensors suck.
