Review on Sony SLV N500 4 Head Hi Fi VCR by Joel Young

I haven't used one of those old units in a long time, but I liked this one. a lot of! I paid $70 for this used VHS and my wife nearly killed me. I, too, was amazed at how few VCRs had fallen even here at Revain, so I started looking around. It was only then that I realized I had gotten a fair deal. Just because these suction cups are old doesn't mean they're cheap! I don't even know where to start looking for new VCRs, but I've found VCR/DVD combos and they're all over $100. But enough about the price, here are 7 reasons why I like it: #1 It has a very fast forward/rewind mechanism. #2 It shows on screen how much time is left on each band as it should, but it also includes a small chart showing where you are on the band. Beginner/Intermediate/Ultimate #3 It's built the way they used to build things. I must have gone 50 tapes through this thing, old dirty tapes, fast forward, rewind and this beast is still ticking. #4 Tracking is the boss. I don't remember following these things very well, but this VCR always gets it right. #5 Memories - I mentioned my wife was a little excited when she found out the price of a used VCR, after hours of watching old home videos she wasn't all that mad. #6 It has 3 audio visual sockets - 2 on the back and one on the front. I love the front for convenience. I plan to connect this monster to my computer through the EasyCapture system and capture all these wonderful memories. #7 The remote works great and has a decent range for its age and also includes an eject button. Buying old equipment like this can be risky. and apparently expensive so do some research and try to get hold of this model if you can. I haven't cleaned it yet, but I recommend buying a head cleaner. You can buy them right here at Revain.
