I have never used a heated comb. I love it it's so easy to use! I have thin hair, I usually use velcro curlers, but after 30 minutes my hair is as smooth and soft as before curling. it's so good it only takes a few seconds) and then insert my curlers! I leave it for 20-30 minutes. My volume and style last for hours and I even have some fullness in the morning! I spray Volaire Uplift Volumizing Mist on each section before drying. I tried VOLAIRE without a heated comb but I almost didn't get it. I think many styling products will do, but I love Volaire! I've fallen in love with my hair since using a hot blow dryer for the first time in a very long time - I'm 65 years old.
